MNPS Western Mountains Chapter Meeting: "What's the Rush?"

  • 08/17/2010
  • 7:00 PM
  • Appalachian Laboratory

Topic: What's the Rush? (tentative title)

Speaker: Wesley Knapp, Eastern Region Heritage Ecologist/Botanist, MD DNR

Knapp will discuss the genus Juncus in Maryland, focusing on western MD species and state wide rarities in the genus. He will also compare rushes, sedges and grasses and describe how to properly identify the genus. This is a great opportunity to discover these often overlooked species from an expert in the field. Knapp is the author for the Juncaceae section in the soon to be revised and rewritten "Manual of the Northeast" (a.k.a. Gleason & Cronquist).

His program will begin immediately following a brief MNPS chapter business meeting.

Directions: From I-68 take exit 33 (Braddock Rd & Midlothian Rd exit). Follow Braddock Road approximately .2 miles to the entrance to the Appalachian Lab on the left side of the road (301 Braddock Road). There is plenty of parking in front of the building.
