Title: Highlights of the Maryland Botanical Heritage Work Group Report

Speaker: Kirsten Johnson, MNPS President

Description:  Kirsten will present the highlights of the report of the Maryland Botanical Heritage Work Group, for which she served as Chair. The Work Group was a team of scientists, natural resources professionals and legislators created by the General Assembly in 2013 to carry out a study of Maryland’s native plants. The group was tasked with reporting on the current status and conservation needs of native plants and associated threats to their communities, as well as making recommendations to preserve this important resource. The Report details the richness of Maryland’s native flora, explores why certain native plants and their associated habitats have become scarce, and recommends steps to make a positive difference to their preservation. The Report can be downloaded from the MNPS or the DNR website.

Location: Kensington Library.

Directions: From the Washington Beltway (I-495)

Take Exit 33, Connecticut Avenue, north to the third signal after the Beltway. Turn left onto Knowles and go 2 1/2 blocks to the library on the right.
