Description: Hellen Creek Preserve harbors part of an isolated stand of eastern hemlock, the southern-most in Maryland.  Some species of plants and animals found here are more characteristic of the Appalachian forest in western Maryland. Hemlocks are just one of a number of interesting plants.  One inland wetland includes pawpaw, sassafras, sweet bay magnolia, and winterberry in a braiding streambed.
