151st walk in the Wild Washington- Forts series

Continuing our series of visits to Civil War Fort sites in Washington, DC we will return to FORT SLOCUM. It is two blocks wide and three blocks long. Though surrounded by lawn, the central part of the park is heavily wooded, with gigantic upland oaks and hickories and understory of the typical terrace gravel forest. A delightful walk in the woods for field botanists and naturalists.

Leaders: Allen Browne and Claudine Lebeau

Notes: Easy to moderate walk but remember we may encounter poison ivy so dress accordingly.

Bring: Water and lunch or a snack.

Cancellation Policy: Cancelled if raining, but call Claudine at 240 472 2803 Sunday morning before 9:00 AM if weather is uncertain and you are concerned about cancellation.

Contact: (for additional information; not to register) Claudine Lebeau, Claudine_l_lebeau@yahoo.com240-472-2803.

Directions: The address is officially 5700 Kansas Avenue NW. Those with cars can park on the east side of Kansas Avenue between Nicholson and Madison across from the park.
