Western Mountains: Field Trip

  • 10/21/2018
  • 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
  • Elk Ridge Native Plant Preserve, Garret County, MD

Cancelled! The forecast for Sunday is not looking good. It’s no fun walking through wet snow, stopping to look at plants when it’s cloudy and high in the 20’s. So we’ve decided to cancel the walk early, giving folks time to make alternate weekend plans. Hope to botanize with you in 2019!

Field Trip: Exploring Elk Ridge in Fall
Leaders: Liz McDowell & Ron Boyer, Western Mountains Chapter of MNPS

This forested ridge in Garrett County lies within the Mid-Atlantic Highlands, the largest interior hardwood forest in the world's temperate latitudes. Landowner efforts to preserve regional biodiversity have helped protect several uncommon plants and animals on this conserved land adjacent to the Savage River State Forest. Native plants in fall color will be the focus during this moderate walk along mostly forested trails with beautiful views. A species list will be recorded and shared with participants.

Participants should wear trail shoes, carry their own water, use tick spray and bring a walking stick. Sorry, but no pets are allowed and no rest rooms are available.

Registration is required but is not available through this website. To minimize impacts group size is limited, so please contact Liz by email at lmcdnativeplants@hughes.net or phone at 301-895-3686 to register.
