MNPS Field Trip: Fern Walk at Snyder's Landing

  • 10:00 AM - 1:30 PM
  • Snyder's Landing
Join a springtime fern walk at Snyder's Landing on the C&O Canal near Sharpsburg, MD.  The high limestone bluffs here harbor calciphitic ferns, including walking fern, bulblet fern, blunt-lobed woodsia, and maidenhair spleenwort, not often found in other regions of Maryland.  Other ferns and numerous wildflowers add to the beauty of this site. We'll be walking along the towpath with occasional forays up the hills.  There will be a few steep places but most of the ferns can be seen not far off the towpath.  A portable restroom facility is available at the parking place but folks might want to stop at a gas station in Sharpsburg. Snyder's Landing is about a 1 1/4 hour drive from I-270 at I-495.
