167th walk in the Wild Washington series
Back again to what must have been the favorite fort for the Union army-- Fort DeRussy-- in Rock Creek Park! End of fall and soon the winter solstice. We will be concentrating on tree, shrub and vine ID using leaves, remaining fruit, bark, buds and branch structures while weaving in ecological principles at play.

Notes: Easy to moderate walk. Bring: Binoculars, magnifying glass and your favorite field guide. Water, lunch and a garbage bag to sit on.

Directions: We will gather at 10 AM in the parking lot of the Nature Center in Rock Creek Park. From Military Road in DC, enter the Park by turning into Glover Road. You will see signs on the left for the Nature Center and Stables. Take the direction to the Nature Center. We will make our way into the trails of the Fort by following the short path between the Nature Center and Military Road.
