From the forest floor to the treetops, native spring flowers and emerging leafage are a significant component of our vernal forest ecosystems in the Maryland Piedmont.

There are so many intriguing and exceedingly important interactions between the delicate blooms and their diverse pollinators, seed dispersers and overall habitats to learn about.

Join us for a virtual journey during March, April, and May, examining and marveling over spring blooms and foliage in select local natural areas.

Our speaker, Carole Bergmann is a recently retired forest ecologist, field botanist, naturalist, and teacher who has worked extensively in the fields of natural resource management and ecological restoration for over 30 years. She founded the citizen volunteer program, WEED WARRIORS, in 1999 while working as the Countywide Forest Ecologist/Field Botanist for the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission. Carole is a past President and longtime Board member of the Maryland Native Plant Society, and currently serves on the Montgomery Countryside Alliance Board and the Montgomery County Forestry Board. She has taught botanical classes for the Audubon Naturalist Society’s Natural History Field Studies Program and is a lecturer and field trip leader for these organizations and many additional DC area botanical interest groups.

The program will be presented online through Zoom, in webinar format. You will not be able to share your own audio or video with other participants, but you will be able to submit questions in writing during the program.

Registration is required. After you register, you will receive a registration confirmation email with a link to the Zoom program. 

The program is free and open to the public.
