This year, we will explore Soldiers Delight Natural Environment Area through the seasons. Serpentine barrens support a unique flora, which is adapted to low essential nutrients, but high concentrations of heavy metals. Some scrubby oak species that grow here are blackjack oaks and post oaks. Horticulturist and plant ecologist, Chris Partain, will lead this trip. We will meet at the visitor's center.
Directions: From I-95 take I-695 N to exit 18B for Maryland 26W/Liberty Rd. From Liberty Rd, take a slight right onto Deer Park Rd. The Natural Area's visitor's center is on the left.
