Civil War Fort Sites in Washington, DC
(105 in the series)

We will return again to FORT STANTON to investigate the upland forest across from the Anacostia Museum on Erie Street NE. This will be a winter Oak identification exercise where we will use bark, bud, tree form and plant association to determine the species of Oak we see.

Leaders: Mary Pat Rowan and Lou Aronica

Directions: In Southeast Washington DC, get onto Martin Luther King Blvd SE traveling south and take Morris Road east. Go 5 or 6 blocks to where the road curves north and changes name to Erie Street. Go 5 blocks and turn right onto 18th Place (a block after 18th St.) and park alongside park or park in the parking lot of the Anacostia Museum just past 18th Place on the right.

Bring: Water and lunch.

Note: Easy to moderate walk. Trip will be cancelled if there is rain. If you have any questions, call me in the morning of the walk before 9 am to check to see if walk will go on.

Contact: Mary Pat Rowan, blair-rowan@starpower.net, 202 526 8821.
